Active Arts Theatre for Young Audiences launches its first production of the 2009-10 season with a delightful adaptation of Tomie DePaola’s beloved Strega Nona. The hilarious story of the good witch Strega Nona, hired helper Big Anthony and his mishaps with Strega Nona’s magical pasta pot will enchant children and adults alike.
It’s been another busy day for Strega Nona, everybody’s favorite do-good witch. What with all the warts, bunions and assorted other ills she has cured in her tiny Italian village, she is way too tired to tend her goat and do the chores. She needs a helper, and, when Big Anthony stumbles into town, penniless, hungry, and eager to please, she hires him on the spot. Strega Nona warns him not to mess with her magic, especially not with her magical pasta pot. But does Big Anthony pay attention? Come see what happens when Tomie DePaola’s beloved masterpiece of children’s literature bursts into life in the best Commedia dell’arte tradition.
