Monica da Silva is a Brazilian/American singer/songwriter/photographer/painter/writer and activist. Growing up between Belem, Brazil, located on the Amazon River in the Rainforest and the United States, and traveling all over the world, she brings international, multi-lingual influence to her music. Recently, Monica has been working on a brand new album, which will be a mixture of Bossa Nova/Jazz and Pop. The new album will showcase more of the Brazilian influence her music contains. Monica just finished up with a 12 state tour, during which she performed at SXSW 2009 and Red Gorilla Music Fest. She will soon be heading out on an even bigger tour, where she'll appear at the San Antonio Summer Art & Jazz Festival and other major venues and festivals throughout the U.S. Please Click here to go to Monica's Official Website.
Monica’s music has appeared on prime-time shows on MTV, CBS, NBC, and The Style Network. She has also been a featured artist on many indie podcasts and blogs, and appeared at SXSW, International Pop Overthrow and Red Gorilla Music Festivals. Monica is now a part of the Flava Puff Artists Series, and her music will be seen in over 14,000 Wal-Mart, CVS, and other chain stores in the U.S. Monica writes and sings in English, Portuguese, Spanish and Italian, and loves to bring international appeal to her music and art.
Her latest endeavor includes partnering up with Rainforest Action Network (RAN). A portion of proceeds from CD and photography sales will go directly to the organization, which helps with issues like global warming, human rights, renewable energy and sustainable economies. With this partnership, Monica hopes to protect the area of the world she most cherishes and considers home. For more info on how you can help, please click here to visit the RAN website.
The collection of photos Monica took while in Brazil, “Amazonia”, is now on display in Chicago. Through these photos, she hopes to share the culture and natural beauty that are hidden in this remote region of Brazil. Monica has been successfully holding fundraiser/art shows around the Chicago area. She hopes to take these shows to a national level in 2009.
