A Lecture and Discussion:

“From a Common Heritage to a Shared Future: Imaging an Abrahamic Civilization”

Although the forces of politics and ideology often have often divided them, a perpetual conflict is not an inevitable destiny. Islam and the West have shared roots embedded in Abrahamic religious tradition. In addition to this common scriptural base, their interactions built what can be called an Islamo-Christian heritage on science, art, trade, and life style. Uncovering and appreciating the shared heritage has the potential to allow Muslims, Christians, and Jews to imagine the possibility for a framework of dialogue, coexistence, and harmony and to build a strong groundwork for an Abrahamic civilization. For the realization of such potential, American and European Muslims are crucial.
