The Bakersfield Community Theatre Playhouse welcomes you to join us in a
celebration of Black History Month and the story of America as we proudly
present "A Woman Called Truth." Honored by the National Endowment for
the Arts, "A Woman Called Truth" chronicles the life of Sojourner
Truth from the day she was sold away from her family as a child, through her
fight to gain her freedom and the freedom of her children, to her emergence as a
respected activist for abolition and women's suffrage. Truth's actual
words, including her historic "Ain't I a Woman?" speech, woven
together with authentic slave songs, spirituals, and folk songs of the period
tell the story of a woman, a people, and a country. Tickets are $12 General
Admission; $10 for Students, Seniors, and Active Military; and children under 6
are free. Tickets can be purchased at the Bakersfield Community Theatre
Playhouse Box Office, by calling ValliTix at 322-5200 or by going online to
vallitixlive.com. Performances are February 13, 14, 20, 21, 27 and 28 at 8pm;
and February 22 and March 1 at 2pm. Join us for this powerful story about the
fight for freedom, justice and the American dream. Now is the time for Truth!
