Allerton Garden on the Hawaiian Island of Kauai is one of the great gardens of the world and also one of the most secretive. Founded by Robert Allerton and built from a Chicago stockyard fortune, the estate served as escape and refuge. Now operated by the National Tropical Botanical Garden it is part of a large-scale plant rescue effort to conserve native Hawaiian plants. In this talk, Author, Lucinda Fleeson, shares some of the hidden Allerton history, as well as its evolution into part of a national center for plant conservation.
