Folk Musician Mark Levy Teaches Two Music History Classes
The APJCC Center for Jewish Life and Learning offers two musical history classes taught by folk musician Mark Levy.
To Make the World Whole: Songs of Peace, Protest, and Change
Mondays, 10/24-11/14, 7:00pm-9:00pm
Jews have ever been at the forefront of social and political movements. We will hear songs by labor, feminist, peace, and environmental activists of the past 125 years, songs by Jewish songwriters which inspired others to action. JCC members, $45; Non-members, $60
Cry of Hope: Music of the Holocaust
Wednesdays, 10/26-11/16, 7:00pm-9:00pm
Yes, we sang and composed during the years 1939-45. Songs, poems, and orchestral pieces continued to be written and performed even under the deathly conditions in ghettos and camps. These were collected by survivors and we'll hear excerpts of the creative effort to overcome this most terrible tragedy. JCC members, $45; Non-members, $60
Classes are held at the APJCC, 14855 Oka Road, Los Gatos. For more information or to register, call 408.357.7411 or email CJLL@svjcc.org. Visit us on the web at www.SiliconValleyJCC.org/JPlace.
