In 2006 the Serious Fraud Office dropped its investigation into the allegations of bribery by BAE Systems in its dealings with Saudi Arabia. The investigation was cancelled due to Saudi government pressure.
The Corner House and Campaign Against Arms Trade argue that the SFO’s decision was unlawful, not least because it broke international anti-bribery laws to which the UK is a signatory. The two groups are seeking a Judicial Review of the SFO's actions, challenging the government to reopen the investigation. All we are arguing for is that the rule of law be observed and enforced. The British government can not be above the rule of law and neither can BAE Systems.
We are asking that the Serious Fraud Office reopen the Investigation and to do this we have had to take them to court. This benefit will help pay for the court costs.
