The mystique and the beauty of the veil has always been an alluring image of Oriental Dance (Belly Dance). Artists have captured this image for centuries. Audiences have marveled as the dancer creates a world of exotic fantasy.
This workshop will focus on technique for veil work. Beginning with a 30-minute warm-up, the workshop will continue with combinations across the floor using the veil. Emphasis will be on carriage, breath and body lines, traveling steps and a variation of turns to create beautiful images with the veil. Old-fashioned veil wraps and the modern Egyptian “open” veil style will be explored. A short veil choreography will be taught.
The workshop will take place on Sunday March 1 from 10:30 until 3:00 pm at The Ailey Studios at the Joan Weill Center for Dance, 405 W. 55th street (at 9th Ave.), NY.
