Dealing in grief, incest, intrigue, and madness both sincere and feigned, Hamlet has been called Shakespeare’s masterpiece. In this particular adaptation, a few major changes have been made. Several roles traditionally played by male actors have been re-envisioned as female, there is some doubling (most notably the actor playing Claudius will also carry the role of King’s Ghost), and the addition of an extra character that interacts directly with the audience as a narrator (the characters maintain Shakespeare’s original iambic pentameter, the narrator speaks in poetically plain English). As for the “look” of the show, it is best described as “hyper-stylized period”, as if William Shakespeare met Frank Herbert. The goal is to build a production that engages the audience on as many sensory levels as possible, weaving them within the world that is Hamlet’s mind and providing no “escape” from the downward spiral
The cast includes Steffanie Freedoff, Silas (Sean) Hall, Josh Holcomb, Kristin Honiotes, Nicholas Kemner, Christina Longman, Valerye Rene, Karilyn Starks, and James Thompson.
