In this second installment of Rothko lectures, Matthew Palczynski, Staff Lecturer for Western Art at the Philadelphia Museum of Art, explores the second half of Mark Rothko’s career. With particular emphasis on the four key phases of his work after 1940, Palczynski decodes how the artist’s Surrealist, signature, mural, and late paintings function in a broader context of his oeuvre.
