The Dessoff Choirs, led by Music Director Christopher Shepard, closes its mid-winter festival, WORDPLAY, with A Night of Wonders featuring author Geraldine Brooks at 8pm on March 15 at the Peter Norton Symphony Space, 2537 Broadway at 95th Street, and again on March 16 in Stamford, Connecticut at St. John’s Episcopal Church, 628 Main Street. The finale of the WORDPLAY festival takes a deeper look at the relationship between music and texts with a choral concert that explores how music is a form of story-telling. Ms. Brooks’ lyrical and evocative novels, including the Pulitzer Prize-winning March, all but demand musical accompaniment. Dessoff provides the soundtrack with a sweeping selection of choral music spanning five centuries, as Ms. Brooks reads from four of her historical novels; Year of Wonders; People of the Book; Caleb’s Crossing; March.
