Friday Nights at the de Young: Cultural Encounters
A Night of Bent Arts and Culture
March 28, 2008, 5:00–8:45 pm
Don’t miss “A Night of Bent Arts and Culture” at Friday Nights at the de Young on March 28. In partnership with the San Francisco Bay Guardian, the de Young presents an evening of music, dancing, live performance, film, and art. Popscene, a Thursday nightclub at 330 Ritch, and New Wave City, the first and foremost 1980s dance party, present a dance party and performance from 6–8:30 pm. The evening also features “Un-vusual: A Video Art Contest” presented by the Guardian. This inaugural arts contest invites Bay Area visual artists to enter their most challenging video art to be judged by a panel of members of the Bay Area’s digital film and arts community. The winning entries will be shown at the de Young on March 28. The closing reception for March Artist-in-Residence Misako Inaoka is this Friday Night. Inaoka’s installation, Hybrid, engages museum visitors through the construction of environments that are rooted in the reality of vanishing species and mutating nature. There are docent tours of Gilbert & George each Friday at 7 pm. On Friday Nights the entire museum stays open until 8:45 pm and visitors can enjoy cocktails in Wilsey Court and dinner, drinks, and appetizers in the de Young Café.
Regular gallery admission prices apply on Friday nights. Admission includes access to all festivities including live music and interactive art projects.
