A Night in Rio: the Brazilian Carnival Experience February 19, 2011

A Night in Rio will feature live samba and traditional dancing by Movimentos de Samba. Carolina Latin Dance Company will perform an Afro-Brazilian tribal dance featuring children dancers. Free samba lessons starting at 7pm will get the crowd moving. Demonstrations of capoeira, an Afro- Brazilian art form that combines martial arts, music and dance, will be demonstrated by Charlotte Capoeira Grupo. The globally-known hits of Antonio Carlos Jobim, Joao Gilberto, and Caetano Veloso will be interpreted by musician Reinaldo Brahm, while SoulBrazil will move the crowd with live samba music. The night will close with an exciting live batucada with drumming, dancers and audience participation.
