What goes around comes around. So OK, it's trite but in this case it happens to be true. Roy Book Binder (Two words, please!) started his career hanging around with the Reverend Gary Davis. Then in his sixties, Davis was one of the Blues legendary characters and Roy was The Kid who learned his craft from the master. Along the way, he befriended Pink Anderson and has run across quite a cast of characters, including three peg-legged dancers, and a 90 year old classic blues singer with a sparkling smile, who was known as, "Diamond Teeth" Mary (Bessie Smith's half sister).
Now in his sixties himself, Roy has taken on the role of master, teaching a younger generation about the blues. Times have changed and he does it via several acclaimed teaching videos, but there is no doubt that Roy is a master storyteller and guitar picker, weaving outrageous yarns with crisp, syncopated picking to keep an audience enthralled.
