The League of Women Voters of the Elgin Area invites you to a meeting offering an historical perspective on immigration in the United States and Illinois. The meeting is a partnership with the league and the library.
Craig Kaplowitz, associate professor of history at Judson College in Elgin, will present scholastic insights into the history of immigration in the United States. He has taught U.S. and Latin American history at Judson since 2002. Prior to coming to Judson, he taught at Middle Tennessee State University and Vanderbilt University. He also consulted for the Educational Testing Service, which administers the Advanced Placement exams, as well as conduct manuscript reviews for several publishers.
His interests, expertise and involvements are in U.S. history since 1945, political and policy history, civil rights, race and ethnicity. He has authored publications for LULAC, Mexican Americans and National Policy (Texas A&M Press, 2005); articles in Journal of Policy History and Presidential Studies Quarterly. Professional societies include membership in the Organization of American Historians and the Conference on Faith and History. He holds a Ph.D. and master’s degree from Vanderbilt University and bachelor’s degree from Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
