Ovation Players/Main Street Players present
“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum”
Book by: Burt Shevelove and Larry Gelbart
Lyrics and Music by: Stephen Sondheim
Directed by Jerry Schell
"Tragedy Tomorrow, Comedy Tonight!" With unforgettable characters, a hysterical script, and music by Stephen Sondheim, this tour de force of American comedy comes alive under the direction of Jerry Schell. The Ovation Players and Main Street Players team up once again to bring you one of the funniest musicals ever written. The show features a live fifteen-piece orchestra.
“A Funny Thing Happened on the Way to the Forum” takes comedy back to its roots, combining situations from time-tested, 2000 year old comedies of Roman playwright Plautus with the infectious energy of classic vaudeville. The result is a non-stop laugh-fest in which a crafty slave Pseudolus struggles to win the hand of a beautiful but slowwitted courtesan Philia for his young master Hero in exchange for freedom.
A gala fundraising dinner and show will be held Saturday, July 12 at Columbine Country Club, 17 Fairway Lane in Littleton. Scenes from “A Funny Thing . . . Forum” and Eleemosynary will be performed by cast members along with encore performances by Main Street Players stars from the past and present. Seating is limited to the first 100 patrons; call Allan Liebgott at 303-979- 3738 for reservations.
The annual Silent Auction and Reception will by held Saturday, July 26 in the Lakewood Cultural Center lobby prior to the evening’s performance.
