Nora Helmer is a vibrant, young housewife who suffers from a
crippling dependency on her husband. In order to save him from a
dangerous debt and spare his pride, Nora arranges a loan without his knowledge by forging a signature. Through her actions, she wakes to feelings of self-awareness and in one of the most scandalous climaxes in all of nineteenth-century drama, Nora is forced to forge a new identity from the one she has always known.
This fresh translation by Frank McGuiness was recently mounted on Broadway where it received the Tony Award for ‘Best Revival’.
