Benefit for Jessica
Imagine if it were you: Most children want a dog - your child NEEDS one.
Most parents can get them one - you CAN'T.
Jessica is a brave little girl who was born with Down syndrome and heart defects that left her weakened and required several surgeries. Her therapist has determined that a service dog would be of inestimable help in her continued improvement, development, and personal safety in learning to navigate the world in ways we take for granted. Unfortunately, such specially and intensively trained service dogs are expensive; they are not covered under insurance, and companies that supply free ones have long waiting lists and are caught in catch-22 policies due to Jessica's age. The company providing the dog is covering half of the cost, and we are helping Tim and his wife Jeana raise the $13,000 for the remainder. Tim worked with us for years at Garden in the Heights and the Westheimer Street Festival.
