The Ascension Cathedral community honors Rev. Fr. Thomas J. Paris with a Day of Gratitude and Celebration, Sunday, January 11, 2009 on the beautiful church grounds at 4700 Lincoln Avenue, in the hills of Oakland. Fr. Tom is retiring after 47 years of service as a Greek Orthodox Priest, the last 37 years at Ascension in Oakland, California.
The festivities will begin in the morning with the Divine Liturgy followed by a reception. There is no charge for this after-church party and everyone – young, old and in between – is invited to pay tribute and say, “Thank you.”
In the evening, people will come from near and far as the festivities continue. George Stephanopoulos, godson of Fr. Tom and Presbytera Vaso, is flying in from Washington, D.C. to preside as Master of Ceremonies while we lovingly reminisce and relive the years that went by too fast.
The schedule of the day:
9:30 a.m. Divine Liturgy
12 noon Champagne Reception
5:30 p.m. Cocktail Hour
6:30 p.m. Celebratory Dinner
Featuring George Stephanopoulos as Master of Ceremonies.
Contact the church office to purchase dinner tickets.
