Join Chicago-based artist, writer, and musician Steve Krakow in a conversation about collecting as an artistic practice. With his Secret History of Chicago Music project, Krakow channels his record collecting mania and curiosity about music into a blend of journalistic research and visual art.
Steve Krakow was recently featured at the Museum of Contemporary Art Chicago for his Secret History of Chicago Music project, a collection comprised of over 100 hand-drawn illustrations that has developed into a study of obscure musicians from Chicago's musical history. Krakow is the editor of the Galactic Zoo Dossier, a hand-drawn culture magazine published by Drag City, front man for Plastic Crimewave Sounds, and founder of the Million Tongues Festival.
This program is presented in conjunction with The Hokin Project’s current exhibition, RE:COLLECTIONS — Collections and Archives as Creative Practice, at the Hokin Gallery, 623 S. Wabash Ave., through April 1.
