This re-telling of the well-loved Dickens novella begins on Christmas Eve, in a town much like our own. Two modern children, caught up in the excitement of what gifts they will receive, seem to have forgotten the true meaning of Christmas. Their grandfather, deciding there is enough commercialism surrounding the season, tells them the story of "A Christmas Carol."
This adaptation, by the Canyon Theatre Guild's Executive and Artistic Director, TimBen Boydston, was first produced by the CTG in its 1989-1990 season, and it has languished in Boydston's garage since then. Director Greg Finley who has directed every Christmas show except one for the past nine years, wanted to try his hand at something different, so he and the author agreed on revamping this script.
