The City that Sings Will Ring Again with Acappella Harmony April 12 & 13!
On April 12 & 13, women a cappella singers, members of Region #4 Sweet Adelines, International will prove once again that Cincinnati is the City That Sings by holding their annual regional quartet and chorus competitions here. Approximately 20 choruses and 25 quartets from Ohio, Kentucky, Indiana, and West Virginia will descend on Northern Kentucky Convention Center filling the auditorium with ringing chords and the promise of sweet acappella harmony.
Both competition sessions are open to the public. Friday’s quartet competition begins at 12:00 PM. Combinations of tenor, lead, baritone, and bass singers will strive to score points in the categories of Music, Sound, Expression, and Showmanship. Many tri-state women are members of competing quartets.
On Saturday, also beginning at 12:00 PM, small, mid-size, and large choruses will compete with some of the finest groups in the Sweet Adelines organization. Representing the local area, four groups (Cincinnati Sound Chorus, Diamond Jubilee Chorus, Gem City Chorus, and Voice of America Chorus) draw members from all over Cincinnati, Southwest Ohio and Northern Kentucky. Also performing will be last year’s Regional Champions, Scioto Valley Chorus from Columbus, as well as 10th place International 2012 finalists, Capital City Chorus from Indianapolis. Region #4 boasts a great number of top quality female barbershop singers.
This year’s winning quartet will compete again this fall in Honolulu, Hawaii; this year’s winning chorus will compete in November, 2014 in Baltimore, Maryland.
