A Beatle in Dante’s - Pete Best Returns to New England June 8, 2007

The Pete Best Band, featuring original Beatles drummer Pete Best, is bringing the high-energy, foot-stomping, Merseybeat sound of the “pre-Fab” Beatles to Dante’s in Marlborough this Friday, June 8th and Saturday, June 9th. The show offers a double-shot of musical fun, as The Pete Best Band. have invited local favorite British Yankees to join them for one amazing show. A must-see event for Beatles fans, Best’s band takes fans on an authentic trip back to the exciting pre-Beatlemania days of The Casbah Coffee Club and The Cavern Club in Liverpool UK, and the Star Club in Hamburg, Germany. The show is built around the set-lists that The Beatles played in the clubs when Best was on stage with John Lennon, Paul McCartney and George Harrison from 1960-62. Highlights include hard rocking selections from the Beatles’ 1962 Decca audition and the Beatles Anthology I CD, where Best plays on 11 tracks. Fans can also expect to hear the classic “My Bonnie” -- the song that lit the initial spark of Beatlemania in Europe -- as well as the only Lennon-Harrison composition ever recorded, “Cry for a Shadow.”

In 1960, Paul McCartney invited 18-year old Pete Best to join The Silver Beatles for a trip to Hamburg Germany, where they changed their name to The Beatles. In August 1962, after driving the beat for almost 1,000 live performances with the band, and in circumstances still clouded in mystery and myth, Beatles’ manager Brian Epstein dismissed Best from the group that he had played with for 2 years. The rest is legend.

In 1988, after 20 years away from the music business, and at the encouragement of promoters, friends, and fans, Best returned to the stage for what was supposed to be a one-off performance. The Pete Best Band was formed, and they have been touring for almost 20 years, delivering the music of the early Beatles, the “Best years”, to fans around the world. The band has been touring the USA more regularly in recent years, to the delight of fans that have been able to catch up with them

The band delivers an unforgettable evening of live early Beatles music, with a first-person history that Beatles fans of all ages, the young and the not-so-young, will never forget..
