Go plum crazy as you take a step back in time at the Ninth Annual Fall Back Festival, a Children’s Historical and Cultural Street Faire, in the heart of the Gaslamp Quarter. This year’s fun-filled festivities will take place on Sunday, November 1st, 2009 from 11:00 AM to 4:00 PM in front of the William Heath Davis House at 4th and Island. Each year as we set our clocks back an hour, the Gaslamp Quarter falls back into time to the 1880s when Bum the Dog and Alonzo Horton roomed the streets. Climb aboard and old-fashioned hay ride and take a tour of the town as you try to picture the dusty dirt roads, bustling vendors and talented blacksmiths. Watch your little ones strike it rich just like the forty-niners as they pan for gold. Get a front row seat as San Diego’s own, Wyatt Earp defends 4th Avenue from the Outlaws and then be sure to turn your attention and cover your ears for a live cannon demonstration! Show the youngins’ how life was like before those modern luxuries as they try their hands at churning butter or capture a family portrait dressed in traditional time period outfits. Don’t forget to grab your spurs and saddle up for an adventurous pony ride or take a moment to relax and pet the llamas. As your belly starts to rumble, scurry over to enjoy some rootin’ tootin’ grub or enter one our fancy schmancy pie and ice cream eating contests to make off with all kinds of loot! Adults and children can take part in this shindig for only $5.00 and baby buckaroos under two are free. With loads of historical demonstrators and interactive activities this is the perfect event to spend the afternoon among your family and friends. The event proceeds will benefit the Gaslamp Quarter Historical Foundation, to assist in the continued effort to preserve the history of the Gaslamp Quarter and San Diego for years to come.
