Richmond
Richmond, Virginia

September 11, 2011 will mark the 10th anniversary of the 9/11 attacks. In remembrance, HandsOn Greater Richmond created tribute projects throughout the area to provide opportunities for hundreds of Richmond residents to honor the 9/11 victims and survivors and those who rose in service following the attacks.

On 9/10, HandsOn Greater Richmond is partnering with NASCAR and is looking for up to 150 people to hand out American flags to race fans for a tribute that will take place between the 9th and 11th laps of the race, collect donations for commemorative wristbands, and encourage fans to participate in writing post cards to military personnel and first responders. In return, participants will receive free tickets to the NASCAR race, which will begin at 7:30 p.m.

On 9/11 throughout the region, community members are encouraged to participate in tribute service projects at local fire stations, parks, and nonprofit organizations. For a full listing of tribute projects, please visit www.handsonrva.org/HOC_9_11_day.

Throughout the week of 9/11, Richmond residents are encouraged to take 10 to 15 minutes out of their day to create a care package for military personnel or dependents of military, or an emergency preparedness package for the Richmond community. Sites are listed on the HandsOn website.
