Background of CEC
The Central European Conference has always served as a point of connection for university students specialised in the field of economics and social sciences. In the past years the Conference has been examining the social and economic situation of the Central and Eastern European region. This has also been a core subject of the professional life in Rajk László College for Advanced Studies. Since Hungary’s integrating process to the Western world and the European Union is far gone – just think about the future Hungarian EU Presidency – we seek to consider every issue from a broader European and global perspective. Knowledge-based society is a nice idea, rotund phrase of many politicians, however, it would really be a great thing to use well-educated people’s creativeness and ideas to help Europe get better. Every country has smart and well-educated people – some kind of “intellectual infrastructure”. We wish to put this infrastructure in motion; we would like these people to meet. If they do, if they evaluate “European characteristics” during the workshops and think about possible further moves together, it could not only strengthen civil society in each European country, but create cross-border cooperation.
CEC 2011
Nowadays it is a frequently mentioned opinion that Europe as one is not able to stand the competition with other regions and in short time it will be the “Museum of the World”. In our point of view – in order to refute these kinds of expectations – there is a significant need for cooperation to discuss the experiences about challenging problems of social, political and economic processes and exchange the views about the inherited and newly emerging conflicts. We firmly believe that our College will have an important role in the development of such a cooperation by making a regular possibility for students and researchers to exchange their thoughts.
The Conference offers an outstanding opportunity to discuss strategic issues related to the future of Europe. The establishment of the lasting connections can be served as a basis of the relationship of our universities or research cooperation. We would like to overview different fields we can cooperate.
