Hosted by the Canadian Council on Animal Care, the World Congress on Alternatives and Animal Use in the Life Sciences is an international scientific conference dedicated to the replacement, reduction, and refinement of animal use in research and safety testing. The program includes discussion of toxicity testing, animal welfare policy, and issues unique to farm animal and wildlife research, and will focus on five themes: safety and efficacy testing of chemicals, pharmaceuticals and biologicals; policy/law on animal use, public engagement and ethical review; incorporation of the three Rs (replacement, reduction and refinement) in education and training; animal welfare for refinement and high quality science; and replacement and reduction in basic research.
