8 Bit Opera: a potent mixture of stand up, sketch and games presented for your amusement. San Francisco has long been the breeding ground for smart edgy comedy and the latest generation of comedians and performers have come together to produce a weekly series of events that showcase both local and national comedians. 8 Bit Opera is the brainchild of Things We Made, the city's premier alternative comedy collective and Miles K a local rising star of San Francisco stand up.
Each week features a variety of sketches, music, and games where the performers are pitted against each other to deliver content unique to each show and sure to leave you in questionable control of your own bladder.
Previous performers have included Sheng Wang from Comedy Central's live at Gotham, Kellen Erskine national touring comedian, Brent Weinbach winner of the Andy Kaufmann award, Mary Van Note of the Independent Film Channel's the Mary Van Note Show and a host of other talented young comedians.
The Dark Room theater, where all shows are held, is in the heart of the Mission District and is home to a number of emerging talents. We encourage you to bring and consume your own alcohol i.e. DIY Drunk. So if you enjoy alternative comedy at alternative venues in alternative neighborhoods then you have no alternative but to attend this mandatory event for all subversive and ironically minded individuals.
This month's show will be hosted by Dave Thomason, performer at the 2009 Aspen Comedy Festival and local favorite at clubs and colleges across California.
Also featured: Trevor Hill, Chris Remmers, Nicole Calasich, Joey Devine, Patrick Bulger, Jesse Fernandez, and headliner Jason Wheeler.
All shows are $10 at the door but tickets can be obtained for $5 in advance through the Thursdays We Made page on Goldstar.com
