55 UnderGround Presents Rissi Palmer March 12, 2008

Rissi Palmer is a musician on the rise with a self-titled debut album produced by some of the most influential producers in the music industry. After hearing her singles play the airwaves, the young 26-year old starlet became the first black woman in 20 years to have a single land on Billboards Hot Country Music Songs the self-written Country Girl. The break-out single also earned a spot in Club Connections Top Ten Country Club and Dance Hits of 2007. Her career began to accelerate with her head-turning performance as a finalist in Star Search (when it returned in 2002); and she is still listed as a notable competitor of the show. Her debut at the Grand Ole Opry was one of the most well-received, leading to several return engagements and the televised portion. County Girl was chosen as part of Starbucks Song of the Day campaign and she has performed during the American League Championship Series and NFL games. She has written with Nashvilles finest songwriters and added Faith from the soundtrack of the film The Woodsman to the long list of songs she has penned. Faith Hill optioned Hold on to Me then released it back to Rissi for her album. The combination of her buzz and accomplishments led to her feature in the CMT documentary Waiting in the Wings (also with Charley Pride and Trini Triggs). Articles about Rissi have appeared in People, Newsweek, The Wall Street Journal, Billboard, Country Weekly, Rolling Stone, Parade, Ebony and Essence, to name a few. She has appeared on televisions CMT Insider and radios Tavis Smiley and Dr. Maya Angelou shows. She has achieved Top Ten and Top Five rankings on MySpace and iTunes, respectively. Yet, after all her success in the studio, radio and television, Rissi claims it is the live concert experience that she cherishes most. Performing is almost like being in a friendship I like to be interactive, to talk to the audience The songs tell stories and they have such integrity. Its the music of life a statement that summarizes the theme of the entire 55 Underground concert series for the students of Baruch College and beyond.
