Show your true patriotic colors this 4th of July with City Food Tours’ Red, White & Blue Food Tour. This 2 ½-hour tour, in Center City Philadelphia, features tastings that include RED wines, decadent chocolates including WHITE chocolate, and a variety of cheeses including tangy BLUE cheeses. The Red, White & Blue Food Tour will be held on Friday, July 4 (Independence Day) starting at 3:30 p.m.

This celebration of the birth of our nation begins at Naked Chocolate Café, where guests will be treated to a decadent selection of chocolates, including several made with white chocolate and an interactive discussion about how chocolates are made. Guests will then have the opportunity to talk to the owner of Naked and glimpse into the kitchen to see where all the chocolates and baked desserts are created. The group will then walk just a few blocks to the Sofitel where a flight of several red wines awaits. Wines from California will be featured. During the tasting, a food expert will lead a lively wine discussion that will make wine less intimidating and more enjoyable.

The tour will continue at Tavern 17, in the Radisson Warwick Hotel in the Rittenhouse Square district. The group will gather in a private dining room to taste a variety of farmstead cheeses, each masterfully paired with an accompaniment. The highlights of this tasting are blue cheeses made in America. The chef of Tavern 17 will meet with the group to talk about the cheeses and answer questions.

Advanced reservations are required and can be made online at www.cityfoodtours.com or by calling 800-979-3370. Tickets are $34.95 per person including wine and food. Gift certificates for July 4 and other dates are also available by calling 215-360-1996.

Every year the Hyde Park neighborhood homes tour has been the best tour of historic houses in Kansas City. The homes are privately owned and are only open for public viewing at this time. The styles and sizes vary. While I don't always appreciation every homeowner's decorating, I always find many ideas to inspire me in my own house.
