Basketball Weekend in The Capital will be hosting the 4th annual Capital Classic basketball tournament July 20-22, 2007
Basketball Weekend is growing into one of the most exciting and celebrated events in the basketball community. The tournaments initial goal is to bring together all the basketball communities throughout eastern Canada through basketball and the family oriented social events around it. In it's first 3 years it has brought communities and families from across eastern Canada and the U.S
Over the course of the 3 days thousands of people come out for the various games, with more than 300 players, coaches, referees, scorekeepers and many volunteers. The games are played in several major venues in Ottawa.(Algonquin College and local high schools)
The level of competition is fierce- second to none in Canada in fact many current and former National team players and players playing over seas participate in the tournament.The tournament showcases the excellence of amateur sports in the community. University coaches from around the province attend the games, scouting for up and coming talent. the tournament has been shaping up to being a springboard for many young people advancing their careers through sports scholarship oppurtunities that would not have been possible without the exposure of the tournament.
Each competing level of the Tournament is separated into categories based on age and gender: The Men's division is the most competitive and glamourous. The women's division boast some of the best female players on the east coast.The Juvenile (high school) level are some of the strongest players among their peers. University coaches and scouts attend to look over and recruit the most promising players
