47th Regiment Royal Artillery march through Havant June 30, 2012

The 47th Regiment Royal Artillery will march through Havant with drums beating and bayonets fixed to receive the Freedom of the Borough from Havant Borough Council.

The honour will be conferred on the regiment, on Armed Forces Day, Saturday 30 June, in recognition of its bravery and service.

And following the spectacular Jubilee Celebrations last weekend the Freedom Parade will give residents another reason to leave out their bunting and flags and display their patriotic pride once again.

The event will see troops marching from the Royal British Legion Headquarters, in Brockhampton Lane, at 10.15am with their colours flying, bayonets fixed and drums beating.

The regiment will then march to Havant Park where a ceremony and medals parade will take place at around 10.30am. Rolling road closures will be in place between 9.30am and 10.30am while the troops form up and march.

The Mayor of Havant, Councillor Gerald Shimbart, said: “The 47th Regiment R A, based on Thorney Island, has long established connections with the towns of Havant and Emsworth and Armed Forces Day seems a very appropriate occasion for us to proudly bestow them with this honour."
