From Air to Space: Propulsion Technologies for Next-Generation System Solutions

June 24, 2008 - Reston, Va. - The American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA) will hold the 44th AIAA/ASME/SAE/ASEE Joint Propulsion Conference and Exhibit July 21-23 at the Connecticut Convention Center, Hartford, Conn. The conference is sponsored by Pratt & Whitney, a United Technologies Corp. (NYSE:UTX) company, located in East Hartford, Conn.

Through three keynote addresses and eight industry panels, the conference's theme "From Air to Space: Propulsion Technologies for Next-Generation System Solutions" will receive a thorough exposition. Subjects to be discussed include: flight applications for next-generation commercial aircraft; military applications of next-generation propulsion systems; supersonic/hypersonic high-speed propulsion applications; and interstellar propulsion.

The luncheon will honor award recipients in several technical fields related to propulsion. Marion Blakey, president and CEO, Aerospace Industries Association, will be the event's keynote speaker.

Wednesday, July 23, 6 p.m. - Dedication of the Pratt & Whitney/Rentschler Field Aerospace Historic Site

The ceremony will unveil a plaque commemorating the establishment of the Pratt & Whitney Aircraft Company and its manufacturing of the first air-cooled aircraft engine in 1926.

The conference is organized by the American Institute of Aeronautics and Astronautics (AIAA), the American Society of Mechanical Engineers (ASME), SAE International (SAE), and the American Society for Engineering Education (ASEE). The conference's executive co-chairs are Tom Former, president, Military Engines at Pratt & Whitney, industry executive chair, and The Honorable John J. Young Jr., United States Under Secretary of Defense for Acquisition, Technology and Logistics, government executive chair. The conference general co-chairs are Paul Adams, senior vice president, Engineering at Pratt & Whitney, and Joe Adams, vice president, Engineering and Technology at Hamilton Sunstrand.
