On Saturday the 30th of June the 3rd Tynemouth (Ritson’s Own) Scout Group will be showing their support for Armed Forces Day by holding a summer fayre to raise money for the Royal British Legion.
The event takes place at their HQ on Billy Mill Lane next door to Tynemouth Squash Club between 2 pm and 5 pm and is open to the public as well as the Scouts and their families.
Dudley Rogers, Group Scout Leader said “Over the years our Group has had a lot of members join the armed forces, including the now famous 1991 Gulf War Tornado navigator John Nichol, so we are happy to support this cause in any way we can”.
The Scouts have planned activities including a catapult target range / crockery smash, beat the keeper, face painting, a bouncy slide, grass sledges which run on caterpillar tracks as well as more traditional activities such as a tombola, but they are also hoping to have other activities such as a slippery slope on the day for people to get wet on.
Mrs Roslyn Hastie-Murray, Vice-Chairman of the North Shields and Whitley Bay branch of the Royal British Legion said “The 3rd Tynemouth Scout Group is one of our affiliated youth organisations and we really appreciate them sharing with us the money made on the day”. She went on “All we need now is some good weather and lots of people to join us on Armed Forces Day at the Scouts’ HQ to have some fun”.
The 3rd Tynemouth are one of the many Scout Groups in North Tyneside who regularly take part in Royal British Legion activities such as the annual Remembrance Sunday service and collecting for the Poppy Appeal. It’s hoped that this event will be just as successful and that there will be a good show of support from the public. It’s important that people realise the event is not just for people involved in Scouting and that any one can come and see what is going on.
