3rd International Workshop on the Biology of Fish Gametes September 6, 2011

Following the very successful meetings in Vodňany, Czech Republic in 2007 and Valencia, Spain in 2009, we are pleased to announce that the 3rd International Workshop on the Biology of Fish Gametes will be held in Budapest, Hungary on September 7-9, 2011. Organization of the meeting will be shared between the Department of Aquaculture of Szent István University in Gödöllő, Hungary (responsible for the scientific content) and Diamond Congress Kft. which will act as an organizing secretariat.

The meeting will be preceded by a welcome party on September 6th while the scientific program will begin on Wednesday, September 7th and end on Friday, September 9th. We plan to have a dinner Friday evening allowing you to spend the weekend in Budapest.

Scientific program

The workshop will accommodate topics related to the biology of fish gametes such as spermatogenesis and oogenesis, sperm and egg metabolism and quality as well as cryopreservation of gametes or embryos. As was recommended in the closing session of the 2nd workshop presentations on the gamete biology of other aquatic organisms will also be encouraged.

The scientific committee will select the materials eligible for oral presentation from the abstracts submitted to the conference organizers. A special attention will be paid to poster sessions allowing authors who submitted their abstracts to present and discuss their results. Participation of young scientists, MSc and PhD students is especially encouraged. Similarly to the previous events the Department of Aquaculture plans to present the authors of the best student presentations (both oral and poster) with special awards.

Manuscripts of the materials submitted for oral and poster presentation at the workshop will go through a peer-review process and will be considered for publication in the Journal of Applied Ichthyology. Authors are requested to prepare their manuscripts according to journal standards. Please bring two hard copies of the manuscript with you to the registration desk of the meeting accompanied by a CD containing the digital version of the manuscript including figures and tables.
