The surf’s up and the shrimp will keep on coming at the 3rd Annual “Toes in the Sand Shrimp Boil on the Beach” presented by The Wasie Foundation on Saturday, April 21st from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. at the Lauderdale Surf Club located at 2 Palm Avenue in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. The jammin’ beach party, benefiting Angel’s Pediatric Heart House, the “Toes in the Sand Shrimp Boil on the Beach” will feature all you can eat shrimp and fixin’s, open bar (beer and wine), live entertainment, the smooth sounds of Caribbean steel drum music, Blue Martini Lounge for VIP Sponsors, announcement of winner of t-shirt designs by Art Institute of Fort Lauderdale fashion design students and silent and Chinese auctions. Proceeds from the event will support free programs and services provided to cardiac children (newborns to age 18) residing in Broward, Palm Beach and Miami-Dade Counties and cardiac children being treated at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital, Miami Children’s Hospital and Holtz Children’s Hospital/UM Jackson. For more information, please email info@aphh.org or call 954-318-2020.

The “Toes in the Sand Shrimp Boil on the Beach” party will also showcase two very special honorees. The event’s medical professional honoree is Dr. Frank Scholl, Chief of Pediatric Cardiac and Surgical Director of Pediatric Cardiac Transplant at Joe DiMaggio Children’s Hospital. Dr. Scholl will be applauded for all of his professionalism, dedication and commitment that he brings to helping others in the community.

This year’s heart child nominee is 10-month old heart transplant recipient, Kylee J. who was diagnosed with three heart defects while still in her mother’s womb. Four days after Kylee was born, her condition worsened to the point where she needed a pacemaker to help her heart. A few days after having her pacemaker implanted, she was rushed to the hospital where doctors had to resuscitate her. After she was stabilized, Kylee’s parents were told that her only chance of survival was a heart transplant- they were devastated. While waiting in the hospital for several weeks for a heart, Kylee’s parents learned about Angel’s Pediatric Heart House which offers not only emotional support, but also financial support to the South Florida pediatric cardiac families in need.
