3rd Annual Chow Down for Charity July 12, 2010

July is National Hot Dog Month. In honor of the occasion, Steve's Snappin' Dogs (3525 East Colfax Avenue) will host its annual Chow Down for Charity hot dog eating contest to benefit Project Angel Heart.

Contestants are welcome to try to qualify for the final chow down any day prior to the finals which take place at 1:00pm on Sunday, July 25, 2010. For a $25 fee, the first eight people who can eat three hot dogs in a three-minute time frame will qualify.

Sounds easy? Think again. Unlike the more famous Nathan's contest, contestants must eat Steve's hot dogs bun and all. No dunking is allowed which makes them harder to eat quickly and more appetizing to watch. The qualifying record is eight hot dogs in three minutes and the finals record is thirteen in eight.

The Denver Roller Dolls will add to the carnival-type finals which is free and open to the public. The final chow down place at 1:00pm on Sunday, July 25, 2010 and consist of the top qualifying contestants in an eight-minute eat-off. The grand winner will receive the 2010 trophy, a $150 cash prize, and be crowned "Top Dog" in Denver.

“We are encouraging people to sign up,” says Steve’s Snappin’ Dogs owner Steve Ballas. “The more signed up for the qualifier, the more we can give to our favorite charity,” he added. A total of 25% of the sales and a portion of entry fee will directly benefit Project Angel Heart.

Qualifier:
• Must be 18 or older to enter
• Cost is $25 plus tax (goes to charity)
• Can try to qualify at Steve's Snappin' Dogs during normal business hours

• Must eat 3 hot dogs in 3 minutes to qualify
• Must eat bun and all - No dunking in allowed
• Top qualifiers make the finals

Finals:
• Takes place at 1pm on Sunday, July 25
• The carnival-type event will feature the Denver Roller Dolls and is free and open to the public
• Features the top qualifying contestants in an eight-minute eat-off
• Cash prizes and trophies to the top three finalist
• Proceeds of entry fee and sales benefit Project Angel Heart
