The Summer Antiques Sale is not only for the serious and experienced collector, but it is the perfect introduction to quality antiques and collectibles for those who are just starting to collect. There is no other show that attracts such a high calibre roster of professional Dealers with an exceptional inventory of antiques. The Dealers set aside select pieces throughout the year specifically for the show at Sherway Gardens.
There are great finds for every room in the house with more than 10,000 antiques on display throughout Sherway Gardens at The Summer Antiques Sale including folk art from the Maritimes, restored mahogany dining room tables, white-washed cottage furniture, vintage timepieces, armoires from France, ancient coins, pine harvest tables, sideboards, blanket boxes, brass beds, pressed glass and estate jewelry. This year’s show will also feature a huge sales display of fabulously fashionable vintage clothing and accessories from some of Toronto’s top dealers.
“The Summer Antiques Sale at Sherway Gardens offers many temptations from tantalizing textiles and spectacular art to one-of-a-kind pieces that are sure to whet the casual shopper’s appetite,” states Peter Sutherland, show organizer, “For those with more refined tastes, such as avid collectors, they will find the crème de la crème of antiques and collectibles tastefully displayed on hundreds and hundreds of glittering glass shelves.”
Over the years, the show has evolved with the tastes of collectors and decorators. Dealers now showcase a wide variety of treasures. Former Parisian auctioneers Anne and Philippe Pallafray offer an array of continentally classic furnishings. Italian art aficionado Joanne Bergen features original art exclusively sourced from Florence. Ontario’s Gerry Marks presents folksy sculptures with a distinctly Atlantic Canada flavour.
“This is part of the ongoing attraction of the show,” says Sutherland. “Our top-notch Dealers know what is hot in the market at any given time. They also know what the decorating crowd is hungry for. Chances are that if you see a juicy vintage look featured in a magazine – you will also see it on the show floor!”
The annual Summer Antiques Sale was the first antiques show to be held in a shopping centre in Canada and has remained a draw at Sherway Gardens for 37 years.
