The 34th Annual San Francisco Ethnic Dance Festival, The World United Through Dance, takes place June 2-July 1. Festival Artistic Directors Carlos Carvajal and CK Ladzekpo have curated a thrilling line-up featuring 30 veteran Bay Area dance companies performing both ancient and contemporary dances, including ground breaking cross-cultural collaborations and encore performances of some favorite dance pieces from past seasons.
The events of the fourth weekend of the Festival take place at the Novellus Theater, part of the Yerba Buena Center for the Arts. The weekend features dances from Appalachia (US), China, Hungary, India, Mexico, the Middle East, Peru, Tahiti and Zimbabwe. The joyous weekend welcomes the Barbary Coast Cloggers, the Chinese Performing Artists of America, the Eszterlanc Hungarian Folk Ensemble, Vishwa Shanthi Dance Academy, Ensembles Ballet Folklorico de San Francisco, Shabnam, De Rompe y Raja Cultural Association, Te Mano O Te Ra, and the Chinyakare Ensemble from Zimbabwe.
