Sex Pistols in SA. 30th Anniversary Tribute Night at Jigger's
January 8, 2008 — Local punk rockers celebrate 30 years of punk rock in San Antonio, with a Sex Pistols Tribute Night.
Jan 8, 2008 will be the 30th anniversary of the Sex Pistols playing at Randy's Rodeo and consequently the 30th anniversary of punk rock being introduced to the Alamo City. That appearance has been recognized by Rolling Stone as one of the 50 most important concerts in rock history and was definitely one of the defining moments in San Antonio's own punk history. It has been documented in many books and the film Sid and Nancy, as well as an extensive SA Current cover story and article on the 25th anniversary.
This is the night that Sid Vicious, cut and bleeding from the stage, hit a fan over the head with his Fender Precision. The band were pelted with beer cans and various food items. The San Antonio Express-News lead the next day with the headline "Sex Pistols win SA Shootout". The band broke up one week later in San Francisco.
San Antonio and America's only sex Pistols tribute band, the Tex Pistols, will mark this anniversary with a show at Jigger's, 1639 Babcock @ Callaghan. Also on the bill is Hoodlum Circus from Shreveport, Louisiana and San Antonio's own Buffalo Lopez.
The Tex Pistols will be performing around 11pm and using the exact same set list that the Sex Pistols performed 30 years earlier that same fateful evening.
The Tex Pistols are not a typical tribute band in that they only try to sound like the artist they are emulating, rather than try to look like them as well.
