The objectives of the CIGR working group on Image Analysis for Agricultural Processes and Products are to (1) meet recent demands on process monitoring in agricultural production, during storage and processing of raw material and to (2) develop objective, sensitive, and reliable optical tools for receiving analytical data in a non-destructive way. This working group was officially launched at the CIGR International Conference in Brazil (2008). As any other CIGR Working Group, it is aimed at working together with existing CIGR Sections to increase the collaboration between institutions, enterprises and individuals in the field of image analysis.
After our first assembly during the 1st International Workshop on Computer Image Analysis in Agriculture (successfully convened by Prof. Manuela Zude and held in Potsdam in 2009), it was decided to organise successive workshops in Budapest (Hungary), Adelaide (Australia, 2011, together with the bi-annual SEAg Conference) and Valencia (Spain, 2012, together with the 3rd. CIGR International Conference).
I believe that the great enthusiasm showed by the team of Corvinus University of Budapest to organise this 2nd International Workshop on Computer Image Analysis in Agriculture was one of the reasons for the assembly to accept its candidature. Moreover, I trust that this enthusiasm will be the basis of the workshop’s success.
I would like to thank our host, the Department of Physics and Control for providing an indispensable support to this meeting, and the continuous encouragement of all our sponsors (CIGR, EurAgEng, ASABE, IVIA and SARDI).
A significant effort is being made to organise this event and now it is time for you to make it fruitful. You will have the opportunity to share knowledge with scientist from all around the world, to start new projects or to have a precise idea of the current state of the art in Image Analysis in Agriculture… and, of course, to immerse yourself in the wonderful city of Budapest and the hospitable culture of Hungary.
