Suchitra Film Society, with the support of the Government
and the Kannada film industry, will hold the Second Bangalore
International Film Festival from January 3 to January 10 in Bangalore.

V.N. Subba Rao, chairman of the organising committee of the festival,
told presspersons here on Monday that the inaugural function and the
first film to be screened, would be at the Chowdiah Memorial Hall. The
rest of the films would be shown at the recently inaugurated Vision
Cinemas on Kengal Hanumanthaiah Road and two other halls in the
vicinity, from January 4, he added.

Nearly 650 people can be accommodated in the three halls at the main
venue. Five shows will be held on each day in the three halls at
Vision Cinemas. Besides, another 400 can be accommodated at the other
two venues, Mr. Rao said.
Participation

Festival director Girish Kasaravalli said over 100 outstanding films
representing 30 countries, including European and West Asian, would be
screened at the week-long festival. A dozen international delegates
and over 50 big names in the Indian mainstream and parallel cinemas
would participate in the event. Many documentary films would be
screened, he added.
Special sections

Besides the traditional homage section, seven select films would be
screened in the Indian panorama section. Two retrospectives, in honour
of the director of excellence and the merited technician, and special
lectures on the creative issues and other challenges involved in
documentary filmmaking, editing and music would mark the event.

Marathi filmmaker Anil Koppkar would deliver three lectures on
documentary films. A special screening of important Kannada films in
the last 60 years would be part of the festival, Mr. Kasaravalli said.
Student package

Festival executive director N. Vidyashankar said that the event would
offer a special package for students of journalism and mass
communication. The details would be announced shortly.
