Chicago’s most unique arts studio is cooking up an exciting event

The Arts of Life, a Chicagoland non-profit artistic studio for adults with and without disabilities, will be hosting the second Half Acre Charitable Chili Cook-Off on November 6, 2010 starting at 5PM. With the success of last year’s event, which brought in nearly $5000 in one night, the 2010 W. Carroll location will once again showcase the area’s best and tastiest chili.

Entries will be judged by attendees and an esteemed judge’s panel that includes representatives from Rodan Restaurant & Lounge, Old Oak Tap, Park Grill, Half Acre Brewery, Black Dog Gelato, and two Arts of Life Artists. With Mike Anderson from West Town Recording MCing the event, it should be an even hotter ticket than last year!

Hilary Marshall attended the previous charitable cook-off and is excited for this year: “It was the perfect fall event. warm and cozy with seasonal must-haves: beer and chili. great chili variety... a range of flavors, spice combinations, levels of heat, including vegan and vegetarian options. Nice opportunity to socialize while supporting Arts of Life.”

Vegetarian and vegan friendly entries will be provided by 24 entrants from around the Chicagoland area, with fresh brewed Half Acre Beer, a cool down from Black Dog Gelato, and a raffle that includes silk screened aprons. Ken Anderson, an entrant last year, has already jumped on the chance to prove how great his chili is. “It was the best! Everyone was great! Great fun for eaters and makers. I had a ball!”

In these tough economic times, the ability to have locally made food at a low price of $10 pre-sale and $15 at the door is a rare find. Yet knowing that the donation goes directly to supporting an organization that is celebrating ten years of empowering people to create an amazing artistic and personal vision for their community makes it even more palatable.

The Arts of Life is a community of people with and without disabilities creating an artistic culture to realize our full potential.
