A HOWLING GOOD TIME To Be Had at the May 16TH Event
Rockin' Oldies by Coope De Lill will liven the 24th Annual Coulterville Coyote Howl, pausing only when the Howlers take front and center. The Coulterville Community Club has signed on a sponsor of this popular Mother Lode quartet. “We sing and strum tunes that …” lead singer, Lillian McLeod, says “ …make you laugh; make you cry; and made you who you are today!”
The car show, added in 2008, already has nearly double the number of cars entered, with dozens of other car enthusiasts requesting applications thanks in part to sponsor AC Delco/Allied Auto Stores, located in Fremont. The car show will be adjacent to the park, with all attendees getting to vote for their favorite car.
Coulterville will once again draw “howlers” from near and far to try and howl their way to the top. The wily winners walk away with cash prizes (sponsored by Bill & Earleen Bailey) and their names added to the “Howl of Fame.” Watching a “Coyote Howl” is more fun than watching a “Frog Jump”…and you can get a lot closer to the action!
This family friendly event…yes, there’s a “little howlers” category in the contest, two in fact, solo and “pup-pack” …is an old fashioned day in the park! Best of all, there is no entrance fee to watch the fun and stroll among the various vendor booths full of local crafts.
The big parade down Historic Coulterville’s Main St. kicks off the action at 10 am. The rest of the day’s activities are based in the adjacent park, with booths brimming with crafts and other merchandise, food and beverages. Author Brookelea Heintz Lutton will be on hand autographing her book, Old Man of the Mountains. The book is the story of Peter Voiss, an eccentric old gold prospector who traveled throughout the Mother Lode, making his living posing for tourist’s photos with his burros and wagon and actually acquitted of murder charges when he killed someone who refused to pay!
The fun doesn’t end at sundown. The Coyote Howl Dinner Dance will once again take over the Coulter Café garden. Featuring a “Howlin Good” meal and the hot Cajun sounds of Blue Box Bayou Band, this is a great way to cap the day.
Thanks to sponsors John & Annette Shimer, the Coulterville Fire Brigade, and Yosemite Bank, who are all sponsoring the evening’s Zydeco, Blues and American Roots dance music, the cost for this event is once again just $15!
