As big of an impression as the old serials had left on young Spielberg and Lucas, Indiana Jones left an even bigger one on three Mississippi 12-year-olds. In 1982, childhood friends Eric Zala, Chris Strompolos, and Jayson Lamb began filming a shot-for-shot remake of Raiders of the Lost Ark. They filmed during school vacations, used the back yard for locations, and fashioned props (like that well-known giant boulder) in the family garage. Six years later, after the lead actor shot up six inches and his voice dropped to a baritone, the film was in the can.
