The 2010 Salute to Israel Parade, the world’s largest public gathering in celebration of Israel, will celebrate the 62nd anniversary of Israel with a spectacular parade featuring song, dance, floats and props.
The Parade is scheduled to take place on Sunday, May 23rd; from 11AM to 4PM; starting at 57th Street on Manhattan’s Fifth Avenue; rain or shine. Close to 1,000,000 spectators are expected to attend.
This year’s Parade will highlight the many and varied dimensions of Israel’s ongoing heritage through its creative theme: “Lights… Camera… Action… ISRAEL!”
With shofar blowers opening the festivities, spectators will delight in the more than 30 beautifully designed floats, 20 high-stepping marching bands and scores of motorcycle riders bearing Israeli flags. You’ll think you’re at the movies as banners made to look like movie reels pass by and classic movie titles like “Independence Day” morph into Israel-themed versions, like “Israel Independence Day.”
American and Israeli dignitaries, community leaders, celebrities, artists and special guests from Israel will also join the throngs of marchers. The Parade will also feature a variety of Israeli celebrities, including NBA basketball player Omri Casspi, boxing champion Yuri Foreman, and supermodel Adi Neumann.
From its beginning in 1964, the Salute to Israel Parade has been a public affirmation of solidarity with and support of Israel, as well as an expression of unity within the American Jewish community, transcending religious and political affiliations. The Salute to Israel Parade is a project of the Jewish Community Relations Council of New York Inc., a non-profit organization.
