Marking the first time South Africa is hosting the FIFA World Cup, ESPN is proud to showcase its national team murals in support of the 2010 FIFA World Cup. The artwork is inspired by the hand-painted style found in the streets and townships of South Africa. Each reproduction tells the story of one of the 32 teams that will compete in the World Cup.
It was created by Cape Town, South Africa based Am I Collective and curated by Wieden+Kennedy NY. The World Cup begins June 11th on ESPN.
Each execution brings to life the soccer back-story for a particular country participating in the tournament. The paintings, created at AM I Studios in Cape Town, tell the story of each team's plight or essence as they enter South Africa for the World Cup.
