The Dance of Soul and Heart

Why do we meditate? Meditation is the doorway to the soul. We meditate to expand the full unfoldment of our own pure Consciousness, the inner state of luminosity, love, and wisdom that many traditions call the inner Self or the Heart. It is only through meditation that we can find lasting peace, divine peace.

Consciousness is the intelligent, supremely independent, divine energy which creates, pervades, and supports the entire universe. As we become more aware of ourselves and how we are connected to everything, we begin to realize that we are Consciousness, or one expression of it. Everything springs from this underlying well of Consciousness. A conscious lifetime is a treasure beyond value.

The power of this moment is the dance of communication with our soul. The silent language of the soul is the impressions, sensations, and feelings that give clarity and reawaken us to our inner being. The soul is. It has no beginning or ending but flows toward wholeness.

The source of our entire being is the Heart, the place of unity and connection with cosmic existence. Life is seen as a journey to the Heart, which brings a person to the highest possible experiential realizations.

As we move towards 2012, people across the globe sense that they are no longer satisfied by ego. The years for the fulfillment of a conscious union with God or Supreme Consciousness that comes with being aligned with their soul and being attuned with their spiritual journey. In every religious tradition the soul exists to bring an end to suffering. This is not said of any other aspect of ourselves.

In this retreat we offer an opportunity to dive into the soul, which takes us beyond our limited mind and ego. It is the essence connecting us to God or Consciousness. A person who is attuned to the soul begins to perceive that a subtle guidance is at work in their lives. In India they say that the soul has two parts—Jiva and Atman.

Jiva corresponds to the individual soul making its long journey through many lifetimes to reunite with Supreme Consciousness. It is involved with action. The kind of person you turn out to be is based on Jiva, and the kind of life you make for yourself will change Jiva daily.

The other part of the soul is the Atman. This does not accompany any journey because it is pure spirit. It doesn’t change in any way. It has never left God. This is what they refer to when they say that the worst sinner and the greatest saint have the same quality of soul.

With Jiva you remember who you are personally.
With Atman you remember yourself as pure spirit.
You need Jiva to have a reason to act, think, wish, and dream.
You need Atman for the greatest peace there is and to remember the goal of all seeking.

Jiva and Atman are the paradox of the soul.

The soul gives rise to all activity without being active itself.

When the soul is neglected, it does not go away. It appears symptomatically in depression, loss of purpose, loss of direction, distraction, and addictions. In the past we were tempted to deny or repress these emotions. We lost our wisdom about the soul or awareness of it. Now we are developing the understanding that it is the vital core of our being.

We are beginning to understand that we have been resisting the natural movement of our soul. Historically we have identified with our egoic self, thinking that it was our soul and that our mind was our identity. Within the evolution of humanity we now understand that the mind is not a barrier but a portion of universal Consciousness with a tendency to congeal into thoughts or images.

We are moving beyond a false sense of identity, and liberation is becoming a possibility. Culturally and emotionally we have learned to ride the adrenaline of emotions and time. We are now regaining the sense of being in the moment and the meaning of the power of now.

People with great hearts come to Bart’s retreats. Spiritual seekers, from the beginner to the advanced meditator, are offered the opportunity to go beyond their own barriers in meditation. They come seeking a safe, nurturing, and supportive environment free of everyday activity where they can rediscover and reconnect with the purpose of their lives and the core of their beings.

They come seeking the sacred environment of Puerto Vallarta where they can be in union with nature, rest, and integrate the teachings in a generous midday break. They reorient their priorities and discover how to deal more effectively with the challenges in their lives.
