Hundreds of individuals and teams from across the region will be walking to help raise awareness of asthma, COPD, Lung Cancer and other lung diseases during the American Lung Association’s 2009 Walk For Life and Breath.
Proceeds benefit local research, education, community programs and advocacy. The American Lung Association of Pennsylvania funds local and national research initiatives, as well as education and programs in local communities which include Family Asthma Nights and Better Breathers Clubs, Asthma Olympics, Open Airways for Schools and Asthma Camp Experience. Smoking Cessation and Not on Tobacco programs are offered to adults and school aged children. Advocacy issues include lobbying for smoking bans, rights for asthmatic school children to carrying inhalers and clean air in all of our communities.
Walkers raise money through donations and fundraising events. Most participants walk as part of a team of family members, friends, classmates,
co-workers church groups and other organizations. Some choose to walk individually or with one or two friends.
The easiest way to register for the Walk for Life and Breath is online at www.lunginfo.com/walks or contact Derek Shaw 1-800-932-0903 ext 55 or bdshaw@lunginfo.org
