Traditional Karate of Owensboro will host their annual championships on April 25th at the Owensboro Sportscenter. This year’s tournament marks the 10th anniversary of competition. To honor this aniversary, Sensei Allen Renfrow will be donating half of the ticket sales to the Wendell Foster’s Campus for Developmental Disabilities.
This prestigious event attracts competitors from Illinois, Mississippi, Missouri, Ohio, Tennessee, and all over Kentucky to compete against Sensei Renfrow’s World Champion students. College students from Murray, Eastern, Western, U of L, and UK will also be competing.
The event format will be divided in to a morning and evening session. Opening ceremonies will begin at 9:00 a.m. with introductory comments by Sensei Renfrow and Maggie Price from the Wendell Foster Campus. The morning session will conduct all Youth (ages 4 and up) events, all Adult (Brown Belt and below) rank competitions, and the Black Belt preliminaries wrapping up around 2 p.m. Each student will perform in Kata (pre-set actions simulating a defense or attack) and/or Kumite (Sparring). Doors will open at 6 p.m. for the evening showcase. Maggie Price will again open the evening session at 7 p.m. with a Master‘s Demonstration to follow. Team Kata, Team Kumite, and the Black Belt Finals will all proceed through the course of the evening.
